Balmain have taken out the 2014 Division 1 Premiership after defeating a fast finishing UTS outfit 10.15.75 to 9.5.59.
The first quarter was a close affair with scores level (1.3) at the end of the first term. A combination of nerves and windy conditions made it difficult for either team to find the big sticks when it counted.
The second term allowed Balmain to kick with the breeze and they used it to their full advantage, kicking 3.5 while the Balmain defensive lines held UTS to a solitary behind.
The third quarter is often referred to as the Premiership quarter. This proved true for Balmain today as they played their best football kicking into the breeze. Balmain played more fluent football, moved the ball quickly and extended their lead. UTS tried hard but could not contain our midfield of Chowanetz and Priest while forwards Martin, Plug and Cottrell kicked 5.5 for the quarter against the wind.
The final quarter saw Balmain kick their first and only goal of the quarter in the first 2 minutes. It was a UTS resurgence after that, but their come back wasn’t enough as the Tigers held on to win by 16 points!
