The sun looked like it was finally going to shine on Henson park, but as the script has gone all year the wind and rain was the key factor in todays game. The boys got out to flying start like the previous weeks and the player who has been on the receiving end of the ball was Rhys Gillespie who must surely be paying the best odds for the first goal of each game. With dominate ruck work from the big man Kev Jones the midfield group of Coach J…arjoura, West and Plug could get quick delivery forward and get the goals on the scoreboard ticking over. In a very dominate first quarter the boys had already blown a good lead out to be comfortable leaders and show the dominance they have shown all year. Gillespie proved to be a dominate figure upfront with the opposition unable to stop his overhead marks and kicking truly to put through 3 first quarter goals.
The second quarter started the same as the first with Luke Jarjoura kicking a beauty from the centre square and leading from the front. Bryce Thompson and Eden Woodend proved to be strong link up runners from the wings with continuous hard running and hard attack at the ball. The usual suspects in Chris Bolt and Alex O’dea continued their strong performances for the club leading from the front and winning the ball continuously and moving the ball towards our goal.
The half time break was a good time to regroup and talk about the game in hand and not to take the foot off the throat of the opposition and to continue to show our dominance in this competition. Our ever reliable back six were at it again keeping the opposition just to one goal even with them having a very strong breeze behind them. Harry Jenkins and Adam Middleton playing strong and intercepting marks at will.
With the game in our hands going into the last quarter the boys were told to keep to the game plan and not to stop and fall into the tricks of Southern Power who were getting frustrated as their season is now more then over and the hands of the boys dominate display of great footy.
Not the prettiest game of the year by the boys but still a dominate display of skill and great team work to just get the job done in hard conditions. The support from our super supporters was at its best with the strong crowd cheering the boys on at every chance possible and lifting the boys to another level and we hope they can turn up every week as they really help create a great atmosphere for the boys.
A few special mentions to the Fretwell family who ran the canteen and even got there early with their 4 kids and the boys really appreciate all your work today as it doesn’t go unnoticed. Also wishing the boys in Luke Elasi and Daniel Lloyd all the best with the injuries and hope they have a quick recovery and back on the field by the end of the year
